bp's Kaskida floating production platform is expected to deliver first oil in 2029.

As one of the region’s largest oil producers and with more than three decades of experience in the Gulf of America region, bp is continuing our work to safely and responsibly develop our next wave of deepwater platforms in the Gulf of America: Kaskida and Tiber.

We announced final investment decisions on the Kaskida project in July 2024 and the Tiber-Guadalupe project, which will become the Tiber platform, in September 2025. Together, they will begin unlocking around 10 billion barrels of discovered resources in the Paleogene – an oil rich geological area.

bp expects to invest around $10 billion to deliver its Gulf of America Paleogene projects.

Technological advancements

Paleogene-age formations are located deep underground and typically experience higher temperatures and higher pressures than shallower intervals in the Gulf of America, which means extracting oil and gas from them requires more robust equipment.

bp discovered Kaskida in 2006 and Tiber in 2009, and technological breakthroughs, notably the development of 20K (20,000 pounds per square inch) drilling rigs and well equipment, are enabling bp and other offshore operators to develop, produce and operate in Paleogene fields.

bp has spent more than a decade evaluating Paleogene projects and helping to develop the technology needed to unlock these reservoirs. Several major offshore operators are already developing projects in and safely producing from these reservoirs in the Gulf of America.

The advanced equipment used for these projects – such as thicker and heavier metal casing – will be independently verified and approved by federal regulators to safely manage high-pressure wells.

Technology forward

Additional tools and other leading technologies that we use today in the Gulf of America will also be used for Kaskida and Tiber, supporting safe and efficient operations for today and tomorrow.
