At a glance

  • One project operations specialist is helping set energy projects up for success long before construction begins.

  • The choices made during design can improve performance over decades.

  • bp is investing in new developments that will help meet long-term energy demand.

Kevin Joseph’s role begins long before anything is built.

As a project operations specialist in bpTT, bp’s Trinidad and Tobago business, Kevin helps to bring together the teams who design new gas infrastructure, and the people who will operate it for decades to come.

His job is to test designs early, asking the practical questions that make the difference between something that looks right on paper and something that works reliably every day.

"Good enough isn't good enough when so much is at stake," he says.

He started his career offshore in 2011 as a production technician, working on major developments like the Angelin and Cassia compression gas facilities. That hands-on experience now shapes how he approaches project design, combining engineering ambition with reality.

Long term impact

bp accounts for around 40-45% of Trinidad and Tobago's total hydrocarbon production. Gas produced offshore is supplied to the downstream and petrochemical sector, as well as converted to liquified natural gas (LNG), for export to regional and international markets.

"bpTT has delivered significant value to Trinidad and Tobago over the last 65 years," he says. "The work we do helps power homes and buildings, supports industry and creates opportunities for people and communities. That comes with a real sense of responsibility. For me, it is about making sure what we design today can keep delivering safely and reliably for decades to come."

For Kevin, that responsibility is about more than just infrastructure. His career has grown alongside bp's presence in the country – and together with his contemporaries, they are now helping shape its future.

bp’s contribution to Trinidad and Tobago extends beyond oil and gas. bpTT also invests in STEM, sport, culture and community development.

For Kevin, the link between energy and everyday life is concrete. Reliable supply keeps industries running and supports jobs and services – and is dependent on decisions made long before a facility comes online.

He remembers one moment in particular that captured what the work means to him – bp's Angelin platform leaving the fabrication yard in Altamira, Mexico and heading to sea to be installed.

"That platform will support Trinidad for years," he says. "I am proud to say I was a part of that. I tell my kids, I was there. I helped build that."

Investing in our upstream

We are investing in new developments to help meet long-term demand for reliable energy.

We’re targeting global production of 2.3 to 2.5 million barrels of oil equivalent a day by 2030. This plays an important role in our efforts to keep energy flowing and build a simpler, stronger and more valuable bp.
