bp has had a successful presence in Egypt for over 60 years, with investments totaling more than $35 billion
Together with its partners, bp currently produces approximately 60% of Egypt’s gas through joint ventures with the Pharaonic Petroleum Company (PhPC) and Petrobel in the East Nile Delta, as well as through BP-operated fields in the West Nile Delta.
In February 2024, bp and XRG announced the financial close and formation of their new joint venture, Arcius Energy, an international natural gas platform. bp holds a 51% stake, while XRG, ADNOC’s transformative energy investment company, holds the remaining 49%. This new JV will leverage the combined technical expertise and proven development capabilities of both companies, with a focus on building a highly competitive gas portfolio.

West Nile Delta (WND)
The WND development includes five gas fields across the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater offshore concession blocks in the Mediterranean.
The WND represents an important contribution toward meeting Egypt’s growing energy needs by providing a cost-competitive and resilient gas supply from the country’s own resources.
The WND is bp’s first operated asset in the country.
Exploration
bp is proactively engaging with the Ministry of Petroleum, in cooperation with partners, to access new acreage through bid rounds and direct awards.
G&LCE
United Gas Derivatives Company
bp is a 33% shareholder of the UGDC, a natural gas liquids (NGL) plant extracting LPG and propane, in partnership with Eni/IEOC and GASCO (the Egyptian midstream gas distribution company).
Natural Gas Vehicles Company
bp is also present in Egypt’s customers and products sector through the NGVC, bp holds 40% interest, established in September 1995 as the first company in Africa and the Middle East to commercialize natural gas as an alternative fuel for vehicles.

Scholarships
bp has funded more than 100 post-graduate Egyptian students at Cambridge University, in addition to providing scholarships through the Chevening scheme.
Middle management upskilling programme
bp has joined forces with the Ministry of Petroleum to support the Ministry’s efforts to fast-track the development of selected high-calibre individuals to prepare them as future leaders in the Egyptian energy industry. Under this programme, selected individuals will be offered a six-month high-quality development opportunity in Egypt and the UK. Participants will receive both on-the-job and formal development experiences.
WND community development programme
The WND community investment programme is the biggest-ever implemented in the Behera Governorate, where the project is located; more than $10 million is being invested in education, health, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure projects.
