With its recent addition of several new Detroit sites, bp’s Amoco brand now has more than 1,000 locations across 26 states and Washington, DC. More than just a growth benchmark, the milestone reflects bp’s commitment to disciplined investment and strengthening its US retail network.
“We’re investing where we can add real value for drivers and the communities we serve,” said Greg Franks, bp’s senior vice president of Mobility and Convenience, Americas. “Reaching this milestone reflects the work of dedicated teams and marketer partners who know their communities and serve them with pride.”

All told, Amoco has added more than 160 sites since the start of 2025, supporting access to high-quality fuels in regions with strong demand – meeting the needs of communities, commuters and commercial drivers.
Together, bp and its Amoco brand are helping fuel American success, keeping people and goods moving – today and into the future.

Rooted in reliability
Amoco’s legacy stretches back more than a century, first taking root when Standard Oil of Indiana absorbed the American Oil Company in 1925. That merger laid the foundation for the modern Amoco brand familiar to Americans today.

Amoco quickly became one of the largest US oil companies, shaping the modern fueling experience and earning a reputation for high-quality fuel and customer trust. Through decades of innovation, it pioneered industry advances such as drive‑through service stations and high‑octane, lead‑free gasoline.

bp acquired Amoco in 1998, combining two industry leaders as bp Amoco and marking one of the largest oil company mergers in history. Following the acquisition, bp gradually retired the Amoco brand, transitioning its stations to the bp banner for several years.
bp reintroduced the Amoco brand to the US market in 2017, recognizing the value of the brand’s strong reputation and customer loyalty. Amoco has helped bp meet evolving consumer demands ever since, continuously adapting and thriving in a changing energy landscape – while its iconic logo remains the same.
Today, Amoco’s growth is supported by modern digital systems and online engagement that help the brand scale quickly, maintain consistency across locations and meet drivers where they are – on the road and online. The brand also harnesses data analytics to determine what sells, what resonates and what drives value.
Fueling the future
Amoco’s recent expansion does more than add dots on a map. It helps bp build a US retail network that delivers long-term value, reliability and customer choice. It also demonstrates bp’s focus on strategic markets and its continued commitment to disciplined investing in America’s energy future.

With a nationwide retail portfolio that includes bp, Amoco, ampm, Thorntons and TravelCenters of America, bp is strengthening supply chains and supporting the economic vitality of the communities it serves. As it expands the reach of those brands, the company continues to modernize its fuel-station experience, improve operational performance and bring innovative offerings such as the earnify™ digital loyalty program and payment tool to more Americans.
Enduring value: A brand built to last
Since Amoco’s reintroduction to the US market, the brand has continued to resonate with drivers seeking quality and consistency – especially through its signature premium product, Amoco Ultimate with Invigorate, only available at Amoco, bp and many TravelCenters of America sites.

As customer expectations evolve, Amoco continues helping meet demand for reliable, premium fuels across new and established markets, playing a key role in bp’s retail strategy, which is integrated with the company’s supply, trading & shipping business. The brand’s recent momentum reflects not only its historic strength, but also its importance in driving bp’s vision for a stronger, more resilient downstream business.
