‘Dirt’ - harmful deposits - is a well-known problem in engines. It can accumulate over time under various driving conditions and can lead to reduced engine performance and other negative effects.
Drivers might notice dirt affecting their engines. In diesel engines, a build-up of dirt in the fuel injectors restricts fuel flow, leading to a reduction in maximum engine power. The loss in power may be felt by drivers as vehicles may no longer accelerate as quickly as they could when new. In petrol engines, dirt build-up on the intake valves and fuel injectors can cause momentary hesitation or loss of responsiveness when accelerating.
