For more than 50 years, we have invested our time, skills and money to seek to make meaningful contribution to communities where we operate. Our social investments are predominantly directed towards three main areas of action – building capability for the future, supporting resilient communities, and partnering on environmental sustainability projects.
Building capability
We believe that to be prepared for the jobs of tomorrow, young people will continue to need a strong foundation in STEM education and employability skills. We support initiatives for STEM educators that offer quality in-service training and free educational resources to build capability in the classroom. We also support employability initiatives for individuals to help develop the skills the energy sector needs to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow.
STEM Learning
We support STEM teaching across the UK by funding science teacher CPD training through STEM Learning. In 2025, this funding enabled more than 400 teachers to take part in continuing professional development, strengthening confidence, skills and classroom impact.

Student Tutoring Scheme
For more than 30 years, bp has been running a student tutoring scheme in partnership with volunteers from the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and the North East Scotland College.
Through this, we’ve placed university and college students in local classrooms, acting as role models, raising aspirations and seeking to motivate young people to continue in education after school. STEM subjects are a particular focus, helping to build skills and confidence in areas critical to future careers. Since the scheme began, we’ve supported more than 3,000 students across hundreds of schools in North East Scotland. In 2025, 76 student tutors completed eight-week placements in 36 primary and secondary schools across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire.

Energising Futures
Through our partnership with We Are Futures, we have funded independent, curriculum-aligned science resources to educators across the UK since 2018. These resources are written, accredited and curated by an expert editorial panel that includes the Association for Science Education and Tech We Can, giving teachers confidence to discuss STEM careers and empowering learners to explore real-world scientific challenges and pathways.
In 2025, the Energising Futures programme indirectly reached an estimated 778,000 primary and secondary students in the UK, with around 68,000 downloads of our free teaching resources.

Supporting resilient communities
We want to help give everyone the opportunity to succeed, whatever their start in life. That is why we are providing a wide range of opportunities, supporting programmes across the UK that are aimed at advancing social mobility and engaging local communities. Our social investments include activities that help to support local livelihoods and enterprise, drive positive health and wellbeing outcomes, and contribute to building thriving and resilient communities. In 2025, our work continued with UK charities dedicated to addressing food poverty and reducing waste.
The Retail Trust
At bp, we have over 1,100 bp-branded service stations across the UK serving more than seven million customers each week. We recognize the importance of supporting our retail staff, which is why we’ve recently extended our partnership with The Retail Trust. Since bp became the first energy company to work with the Retail Trust in 2023, colleagues have had access to services including counselling, financial support, and a virtual GP, while new store managers receive training to help them to better support their teams.
The partnership also supports industry-wide efforts to protect shop workers, including the Let’s Respect Retail campaign, which is working to tackle abuse against retail staff and promote safer working environments. In 2026, bp committed to supporting the Retail Trust’s services for a further five years, with funding contributing to new digital support for retail workers across the UK.

Get into Retail with The King’s Trust
We partner with The King’s Trust on their flagship ‘Get into Retail’ programme that gives participants access to valuable work experience and employability training, providing placements to 32 individuals, with 24 progressing to employment with bp. The two-week course gives unemployed young people the opportunity to gain work experience in a store, alongside employability training delivered by The King’s Trust.

Felix
Our partnership with The Felix Project started in 2022 and continues today as we support their efforts to redistribute good-quality surplus food to provide tens of millions of meals each year to vulnerable children and their families. Following the 2026 merger of The Felix Project and FareShare – forming a new organization that brings together decades of food redistribution experience – bp continues to support Felix’s expanded mission of distributing food across the UK. In 2025, bp became a founding supporter of the charity’s new South London depot, which includes Felix’s Food Factory, enabling surplus food to be collected, repurposed and delivered to communities who need it.

Partnering for environmental sustainability
Through our partnerships and programmes in different parts of the UK, we are providing funding in support of environmental sustainability projects. We have been investing in support of the UK’s biodiversity for decades, including our 20-year collaboration with Future Woodlands Scotland, which originated with the pioneering Scottish Forest Alliance. The Alliance successfully added 5,000 hectares of new or restored native woodland. Here are some of the projects we’ve supported.
Future Woodlands Scotland
In 2024, applications opened for the Urban Forestry Challenge Fund, which is part of a commitment to provide up to £10 million over 10 years to support the Urban Forestry Programme with our long-standing partner, Future Woodlands Scotland. Launched with funding from bp, the programme is now supported by JERA Nex bp. As part of its community investment for the planned Morven offshore wind project, the programme aims to address the need for more trees and green spaces in Scotland’s urban areas. bp continues to support the Future Woodlands Scotland Future Skills Programme. Launched in 2024/25, the programme tackles the urgent shortage of skilled workers needed to protect, restore and expand Scotland’s woodlands.

Tees River Trust
bp is a supporter of the Tees River Trust through funding for a four‑year project (2024-2027) to help support the restoration of the ecology of the Tees Estuary. The initiative focuses on reintroducing native species, such as oysters, restoring seagrass beds and blue mussel, and creating habitats for fish and invertebrates. Trials to produce native oyster brood stock were under way in 2025, with the Trust’s onsite oyster breeding pond, alongside early seagrass planting and deployment of artificial habitats. Together, these actions aim to strengthen biodiversity and contribute to the long‑term resilience of the estuary.

River Dee Trust
In 2023, bp developed a collaboration with the River Dee Trust in the northeast of Scotland. Our support – committed for five years – is funding a programme co-ordinator role for the first phase of the Trust’s new ‘Save the Spring’ programme, which was launched in October 2023, in partnership with the Dee District Salmon Fishery Board and The Atlantic Salmon Trust. In addition, bp’s employees have been involved in multiple volunteer activities, including removing invasive non-native plants from the riverbank near Aberdeen, as well as environmental sampling to help assess river health.
